Subject:Re: Getting results with a Numa

The only reason I am using mismatched speakers is because the Yamaha S12 ME
is a lot lighter than the EV S12S. Otherwise I would use the EV pair.

I am going to stick my neck out and say that the Numa preamp must be
significantly different than the Key B regarding the way it is EQed, although I
have never actually had them side by side.

My previous clone ( a VK8m) could pump a tremendous amount of lows into the
middle register of the organ, by means of its internal EQ parameters. The
Numa doesn't seem to do that.

I have actually not tried the powered Mackies with the Numa but I have
tried JBL Eons and QSC K 12 's and I did not like the results. The percussion
on slow decay 3rd harmonic did not sound right,
the sim did not sound right, and the overdrive was not right either. But
there were plenty of highs ( !)

For some reason the Numa does sound right through most of the home hi fi
speakers that I have played it through. But through modern powered PA stuff,
something weird happens.

Through my older speakers, with outboard EQ the Numa percussion volume is
not a problem, the overdrive sounds warm and very usuable and the sim is so
good I doubt I will ever drag out a real leslie again.

On the Ventilator I think there is something called "horn level" or
something similar that adjusts the way the high frequencies interact and also
helps deliver a less shrill overdrive.

The Numa could benefit from something like this but more and more I think
that not much is going to change on it. You are given the basic Key B
engine, and have to work with that. Still , that is a lot. But don't expect most
of what is out there among powered PA speakers to do it justice.
