Subject:Re: Cleaning tips for keys at a gig
One of my buinesses is window cleaning. Windex won't scratch anything (unless the rag you use is scratchy). Use a lintless polishing rag they sell in the cleaning products section. Spray the rag. Wipe the keys with the damp rag.
Windex also makes a perfect upholstery and carpet spot cleaner.
I would not recommend baby powder. If any powder gets under the keys it can accumulate along with the dust to cause problems.
I would never use any oil. Some plastics and printed lettering might react with oil.
At home I often gently vacuum with a soft upholstery brush before cleaning (careful not to scratch or break any parts). I want as little dust as possible falling between the keys. Then I clean with a damp rag. I add a little Windex Spray to the rag only when needed.
