Taking a wild guess, I would say the circuitry including the board is probably
less than $50. The external components are probably expensive relative to the
other components, another guess at probably a little under $50 at most. So
total components probably cost less than $100. They did a nice job of avoiding
costly ($10K) agency approvals by using the external power adapter (disliked by
most of us). R&D is a different story. Unless someone had a total stroke of
genius and wrote totally debugged code off the bat, R&D is a major contributor
to the cost per unit.
Although the cost of the box, switches, and connectors would be eliminated if
the Vent was incorporated into a clone's case, there would still be the cost of
the pots for real-time adjustments, critical to some of us that use the Vent.

I wonder how much of the $500 goes towards the stompbox chassis, peripheral
connectors, power supply, etc of which that cost would be eliminated if a clone
manufacturer were to just incorporate the Vent's circuitry into the instrument's
board??
