Yes there is a use for reverb before amplification as opposed to after it.
Guitarists sometimes use an Echo Plex, Space echo before the amp after the
guitar, get a tone from there and run the amp into distortion, thereby
distorting or effecting even the reverb signal. Nice thing about clones is that
they allow for much experimentation.
