Subject:Re: [Hammond_xk-3] Harmonic Beating with Vent and XK3c????
I’m not sure what your question has to do (or answers) that the Voce is not the be all and end all. I know you’re on Team Voce, and that’s great. I’m a fan too, but I can say something is good and acknowledge there is something better …and in this case, there are lots of things better, or at least as good (all subject to taste of course).
But to address your question, as tangential as it is, that’s up to everyone, isn’t it? No one is forcing you to buy a clonewheel: you have the option of saying “nah, I’m good.” I’m done buying clonewheels until something really fantastic comes along that makes me say “now THAT’S really head and shoulders above the rest.” The last 2 clones I bought were the XK3 and XK1. I bought the XK3 when it came out because it was head and shoulders above everything else out there. When the Xk1 came out, I bought that because it was 15 lbs lighter, and a little smaller, and the diminished tweaking ability was for things I didn’t tweak anyway. I’ve been playing the XK1 since it came out in …what, 2006? I’ve been playing it for 5 years now. Love it. That and my Ventilator give me all I need. Can it be better? Of course. Do I see anything out there better? No. The KeyB is like the Diversi: I’ve heard about ‘em, NEVER
seen one anywhere. The price difference is enough that I don’t even care if it’s better, I’m not spending the money. For $49 I also have Vb3: sounds freakin killer, and I don’t need the Ventilator for it.
So, for now (and for the last 5 years), I’m done buying clonewheels. But do I want them to get better? HELL YES! And when they get that much better, I’ll line up and get one. Should that stop you? No. (And you’ve been a V5 guy forever, so I don’t even know why you’re asking this question!)
So back on topic: The Voce stuff is great, but it isn’t “there” yet, by a long shot. It needs to address percussion, C/V, better overdrive, and it needs a better leslie simulator than Spin II. And of course having an affordable keyboard version would be good too.
