I agree that the Motif rack unit is one astounding unit, and the original Motif and ES racks can be found for approx $400 used or less. They have fantastic pianos and Rhodes! It was my first choice for many years, and I still think very fondly of the Motif line.

However, my most recent buying and listening experiences have led me to the Korg Microstation. It is a 61 key mini-keyboard with a newer (and smaller) sound engine first used on Korg's flagship M50. The most important point to make here is that the Microstation's EDS-i sound engine has much improved clavinets over the Motif (with the key-click off sound included) and the wurlitzer is more realistic. The Rhodes and pianos, although not as plentiful, are superb and should fill any needs you have. I was a die-hard Motif user, but one listen on the Microstation simply showed an improvement. It looks like a toy, but give a listen!

It is a mini keyboard to sit on top of your C1, and can double as an extra set of piano keys! I was initially miffed at the size of the keys, but Korg has come a long way to improve the feel and action. It is surprisingly nice to play. It sells for $599 in Canada, I don't know if that means cheap or not?! ...I would strongly suggest you try one out. Over in the Korg forums, the M50 players are lamenting the improved pianos on this fantastic lil' synth.
