Subject:Re: Carvin 3 way speakers for keyboards? need some advice

You may want to look at 3 way bass cabs from acme or accugroove. The accugroove stuff has had very good reviews on this forum. The acme is similar but less expensive. Another alternative may be a good powered speaker such as a QSC K8/10/12- use the monitor or pre out on your mixer or run direct. You can also get a pair of EV ZXA1's for about the same price and run stereo which will give you a much more open and spacious sound better for keys. Don't let the 19lb EV's fool you- they are serious amplification and sound quality in a 19lb (ea) package.

Subject: [CWSG] Carvin 3 way speakers for keyboards? need some advice

I'm playing with a Korg cx3 and Studiologic controller with a motif rack. I've been using a Roland kc500, but am not really happy with the sound or the power (150w). I have a Mackie 808 power mixer head and am looking for a speaker to use with it. I like the idea of a 3 way speaker for better clarity of the keyboard sounds, and Carvin seems to be the only company that makes this kind of cabinet (15inch woofer, 6 inch mid, 1 1/2 inch tweeter). Carvin offers a wooden cab (wood is poplar) and a neodymium speaker/plastic cab. Anyone have any experience with this kind of set up or with Carvin speakers specifically.

Thanks for any and all insight,

Steve
