Subject:Live gig synth module..... cheap??
John,
I have used a Roland Sonic Cell with a C1 (now a C2) for a while now and it's a great combination. The C1 sits very nicely on the top right hand side of my Nord, and I can easily see the display and reach the dial to change patches on the Sonic Cell (unlike a rackmount style synth module which won't sit nicely on top of the organ).
The sounds on the Roland are pretty good.. strong points are clavs and strings, and the weak points are the acoustic pianos (so I picked up an SRX piano plug in card).. the Sonic Cell also has a line/mic input, it accepts USB sticks, and can play MP3's and/or Wave files.. and it's also a USB Audio interface that can be used with a computer. There is also a synth editor available for it if you want to tweak the internal synth sounds.
It's very easy to set up splits and layers, and extremely convenient because it's small, weighs only a couple of pounds and the fact that it sits on top of the C1, is fantastic!!
I would highly recommend the Sonic Cell.. it's not available new these days, but you see them on eBay.. there is one there now item # 320643777663
Regards,
Craig MacDonald

Sorry gang; I know there was a discussion about this sometime ago, but I was not able to search and find it.
I have a live gig coming up; 2nd keyboards, and I need to be able dial up a Wurly, Rhodes, Nice strings, some pads, clavinet.... ......... that type of stuff.
I will use my Nord C1 for organ, primarily, but want to play a synth module, when needed, using the lower manual. I will not be playing bass, so this will be possible.
........ Suggestions?
Thanks.
Mr A
