Subject:Re: New Vent Footswitch

Funny this topic came up. I was one of the first vent purchasers some time ago. It had the random rotor position in stop mode. As a jazz player, 90% of playing is in stop mode and 10% in fast. When you first plugged the vent in, it would position the rotors in the front position - and it sounded great. However, after moving to stop mode from chorale or fast it was random.

Let me tell you, when those rotors stopped in certain 'positions', the result was unpleasant and a buzz kill. It would give off a nasally/blanket over the horn sound. The only solution was to unplug the vent and plug it back in, putting the default stop mode to rotors facing forward. This was annoying, and a massive PITA if you were playing live. It would also make a huge popping noise when powered off/on.

Another clonewheeler and I contacted Guido about this, requesting that the code be re-written so that the rotors would always stop facing forward. Thankfully, he listened to us and made the feature change for newer vents, rather than waiting for vent 2.0 to come out. Moreover, he made the update to our vents (for a nominal fee) so they too could benefit.

Short answer, it is 1000% better stopping with the rotors in front. It makes a HUGE difference in quality and consistency of sound.

As far as I'm concerned, Guido is a rock star, and his customer service is outstanding. I couldn't believe it when I got my vent back with the update and it did what I originally wanted.

Cheers.
