Subject:Vent at Home

So this morning I hooked up the Vent into my Motif XS... (Have not
had the time yet between football games to break out the XK3c yet, but
maybe tonight)

After critical listening with very good headphones (in mono) I must
admit that the hype is accurate. Using my own B3 samples through the
Vent gave me some very impressive results.

The overdrive simulation is dead-on. Maybe that is the most impressive
quality of this unit.

Of course the rotor accuracy is beyond pale... As I mentioned before I
can finally get the Leslie sound that I prefer, the closely miked horn
and rotor (some would say "poorly miked"). But this is the sound that
I grew up with, and played with when they miked my own Leslies... This
is the sound I love.

As good as the XK3c sim is (after a great deal of tweaking), this is
the one miked leslie sound you can't get from it.I used a further
"mike distance" on my XK3c and it sounded good. But not what I really
want.

The one problem with the samples on my Motif XS is with phase shifting
when the rotors are set to "fast". This is strange as I thought that
this happens only when using samples with real rotating horns. Is the
Vent that good that it also simulates this problem too? I hope that
this will not be the case with my XK3c... I don't believe it should as
that phase shifting does not occur with the XK3c through a real Leslie.

So thumbs up so far...
