i would be using Pocket Organ and M3000 HD (mellotron stuff) if these apps supported the recently available midi apis. korg ms-20 does this already and its badass! expect to see all your big vst makers port their sound engines to ios over the next year... -pc

p.s. using the camera connection kit my ipad can POWER the Arturia Player 2-octave usb keyboard. the two combined are mountains of synth potential that can leap out of a messenger bag in a pinch!
