Quick impressions from NAMM day 1.

1. Ventilator ROCKS

Okay, I deserve all the abuse that my fellow clonewheelers are about to give me. But I head Joan play her Nord through a Vent and I was sold. The overdrive nails the overdriven tube amp on the Leslie perfectly. Much better than on the new Numa organ (IMHO). I played around with the Vent and moved the virtual. Mike as close as possible and found the Leslie sim sound not available on the XK3c. Just like the Mark Stein sound on the live Fudge CD.

Also checked out the new Vent footswitch. Very nice. Beefy with just the right programmability. Can go from stop to fast, slow to fast, etc.

I will have my Vent and footswitch in hand for my next gig a week from Saturday. I will offer a full review of both then.

2. Numa Organ

Ok, I hate the color. Don't like the drawbars. Don't like the cheap looking vibrato chorus dials. Don't really like the position of the leslie switch (or feel of it). Not crazy about the button switches. Not a fan of the keyboard feel. So from an ergonomic point of view, it does not impress.

The sound is great. Nailed the vibrato/chorus. The leslie sim is very good (though not as good as the Vent). Overdrive is ok, but again not Ventworthy. It is light.

3. Numa Piano

Now this was impressive. Great sounds, good keyboard action. Nice EP's.

4. Vintage Vibe Piano

Those crazy wurlitzer retro-fitters came out with a wurlie clone. Very nice. Sounds great. Like having a new, better designed wurlie. Cool metalflake colors.

5. KeyB

Still the best clone out there in both sound and ergonomics. I was so tempted to buy one on the spot, but my back...
