Subject:Re: V5+ / Ventilator

That is a rig that I have thought of in the last month or so as a
gigging surogate to my A102 (after the move from CA to Croatia, that thing
has moved the last inch in my possesion).

I have heard good things about the 5+, and knew that it needed a decent sim.
Would you post some sound examples on YouTube?
I would think there would be a few forum members interested in what you get
by pairing off the two....

Subject: [CWSG] V5+ / Ventilator

Hi All,

Just wanted to say hi to the group and post my experiences.

I put together a V5+ and Ventilator rig recently and now I've had a chance to
play a handful of gigs with the rig I thought I'd post some thoughts.

Really happy with the sound, the ventilator is a HUGE step forward from other
rotary sims I've used. (Korg G4, Korg Triton internal, Roland XP internal,
Hammond XB2 internal, spit..)

I'm not happy with:

- The overdrive - I can play with the overdrive knobs on both the vent and the
V5 but I can't get it quite right. At some point I'll insert a real valve
between the two. Probably try one of those cheap ART valve pre-amps first.

- No decent reverb. Need a spring reverb after the v5 before the Vent (and
before the valves I guess) Danelectro make a real spring box for guitarists for
about £100 (GBP) so I'll give that a try sometime.

I'm a bit put off all this just for the sheer complexity of setup (sometimes in
a rush in the dark) but perhaps I'll build some sort of custom board-top box for
the whole setup at some point so I can just rig a midi in and an audio out.
Right now the V5 is velcro'd on the top RHS of my keyboard and the Vent (lovely
solid box) just sits above my left hand.

BTW I play an XP50 with the 60s/70s card installed (I still use it for the
Rhodes sounds) and it makes a nice quick backup if anything goes nasty with the
V5 or the Vent. So far it hasn't :) I play blues & ska so could get away with
this if necessary.

Anyone got a similar rig and tried the overdrive or the spring?

Cheers & Happy 2011

Alex
