Thank you Steve. Most of the people on this list won't even know what it is!

Even I disagree with Steve sometimes, however, this time he is totally
correct. Good, not adequate amplification and speaker choices are at least as
important as the signal source ie clone. Yes, there are loads of used stuff
out there, 99% of which I would not give outhouse room. There again I am
sure my choice of amp/speaker combination wouldn't be Steves choice. I use a
McIntosh 500 watts/channel with a pair of modified Altec 19's and 2
different amplified subs. Obviously I do not gig with these. However they
are my reference. The difference in sound from this to other stuff is
enormous. It is also very telling of differences in sound sources. Long post
made short.amplification chain is extremely important.

I am going to have to disagree with Steve Hayes here.... (it's not like I
haven't done THAT before).
I think that there is room for improvement among all the clones currently
available - and that includes the NUMA.
The areas that I think need improvement among Hammond clones are things
like leslie simulation, chorus vibrato , percussion adjustability, overdrive
characteristics , key click, and overall weight reduction. Not to mention
overall great tone.
I really like the fact that the designers of some of the newest clonewheel
offerings ( Numa and VB3) are participating on this list. That means we
being listened to, and that future changes will reflect that feedback.
Most ( if not all) of the clones out there are capable of sounding good (
if not great) through a good leslie. But many of them miss the mark on
leslie simulation , chorus vibrato , overdrive etc. etc.
If a major player were to record a CD using one of these leslie sims,
many of us could spot it in a heartbeat.
Sure, some of us could benefit from better amplification..... expensive
preamps, expensive speakers and pay a lot of money to achieve overdrive and
crunch. But it has been my experience that more expensive does not always
equal better. I can do just fine shopping the used market for power amps,
speakers, vintage leslies etc. etc. There are TONS of options.
What there are NOT tons of options of are Hammond organ clones that do not
require outboard gear to make them sound authentic . Give it to me all in
one package, please. I can plug a B-3 into a mixer and a pair of speakers (
ala Brian Auger) and get a great sound. I want an organ clone that can do
the same.
Fire away.....
