As an aside: Does the Sonic Cell have Roland's "scat" vocal sound?

Matthias,

At the risk of offending the Roland VK fans on the list, I have to say that the
Nord C2 sound is dramatcially better than a Roland VK8, and this should not
surprise anyone considering that the VK8 sound engine is 8+ years old now (I
think it was released on 2002), whereas the Nord C2 is a current product
released in 2010.

However, putting the different brands/models biases aside, you are basically
asking if it's worthwhile to upgrade from a 2002 model organ clone to a 2010
model organ clone. Frankly, I don't care what current model of clone you are
comparing to, but basically every clone that has been released in the last 2-3
years is probably better than a clone designed 8-10 years ago... (whether that's
a hammond, NORD, NUMA or whatever).

Here are a couple of key things to consider:

1. Are you happy with the interface, and will exchanging real drawbars for
buttons be a major issue? If so perhaps you don't want a C2.. OR you might want
to purchase the Ocean Beach drawbars for about $250 and they work great).

2. Are you happy with the sound of the VK8 through the ventilator? One of the
weakest points of the VK8 is the leslie sim and you have basically solved that
problem by adding a ventilator. One of the things that the ventilator is doing
is revitalizing some of these older Hammond/Roland/Korg clones.

3. Is the double manual important, and will it add value for you? I love my Nord
C2 and I use it both as a double manual organ AND a double manual keyboard
controller with a sonic cell sound module, and it's a killer rig!!

In my opinon, if it's affordable, you should definately upgrade.. you'll have
newer technology, hopefully longer reliability, and better sound/features. I had
a Nord C1 for a couple years and loved it.. but I had an opportunity to upgrade
to a C2 for only a few hundred dollars more than I could sell my C1 for.. so I
jumped at the opportunity, primarily for reasons of reliability, and having a
current product made me feel as if I was protecting my investment somehow.

Regarding the ventilator.. while the C2 has a great sim, I really still love my
ventilator.. the close-mic sound is fantastic, and I continue to use it with my
C2. You will probably want to do the same!

If you see a deal on a Nord C2.. jump on it.. I don't think you'll be
dissappointed. All of this is just my opinon.. of course!
