Subject:Re: Numa, Xk3c, Nord, most authentic?
I just got a Numa and it NAILS the Classic Jimmy Smith sound! Jimmy
used long decay on third harmonic during the sixties and Numa was aware
enough to let the long decay remain fairly long, so the Jimmy Smith
sound is definitely there.
Another thing that makes this happen is the "live" chorus vibrato on
the Numa. The chorus vibrato is just dead on. This was a big reason
that I have not bothered with some clones in the past. If the CV is not
right I don't really have much interest in putting out what usually
amounts to enough money to get a real Hammond. But for what I am trying
to do, the Numa sound delivers the goods.
I really like the sim on this- particularly the chorale sound, which
Jimmy used during the later part of his career. The fast sim speeds up
pretty quickly but comes down slowly. It never gets warbly and it
records very well.
There is quite a bit to like in this light weight but powerful package.
I have spent the last several days just enjoying the heck out of this.
I also think the key feel is good...it just invites you to play it.
