Subject:Re: My Hammond SK1 saga is over!

Mark,

I honestly can't say what the differences are between the original digital CX3 and the CX3 mode that is built into the Oasis and the Kronos (maybe there is someone on the list that can help us answer this question?)..

However, if seems to me that the leslie sim is better but still not quite up to the ventilator yet (however the Kronos OS is upgradable!!! so there's still hope).. but it seems warmer, less digital(so it's definately version 2+), and there seems to be a number of new parameters (although I'm just going from memory). I think that C/V is one of those areas where there are some new parameters that I haven't figured out!

Yes the SK1/SK2 is being touted as the ultimate "all-in-one" but I have to say from personal experience that there are some hardware issues.. (my dealer has had a couple of failures), and the software is already at release 4 which is not a good sign (it's only been out a couple months). And I have to say that the extra voices are unimpressive, and VERY limited.. They're not even as good as an entry level workstation like the Yamaha MOX6/8! There aren't even any strings in the factory Extra Voices, unless you count synth strings or solina strings. You can now download strings as an add on, but I can tell from the sound of these strings that they are VERY short samples and quite harsh sounding.

Given my experience I am unimpressed with Hammond, and with the SK series. I am very glad that I have the Kronos to play with.. great organ, CX3 mode is excellent (I have yet to try it with the Ventilator, I bet that absolutely kills) and the other synth engines and voices I have are incredible!
