Craig,

I just listened to some of your band's tunes on Myspace... very nice heavy rock sound.  Just wondering though... is that a B3 you're playing in those photos? Sure looks like one :)

Mark,

Thanks for the info.. I may give Cantible a try. I run Sonar X1 in my studio, and I have 3-4 different audio/midi interfaces that I've picked up over the years.. I just purchased and installed a new Roland Quad Capture on a new Dell i7 desktop and all of this has been virtually glitch free.

I actually purchased a laptop about 2 years ago for this very purpose and unfortunately it didn't play nicely with Sonar and it took me about 3 months of playing with it before I was able to get it working well (turned out to be a bad video driver that an update fixed).. but by that time I had actually lost faith in the laptop/VST combination as a viable/reliable gig rig, so I just dropped it.

However, everything is working better these days.. Windows 7 is a great OS for music apps.. the HW is a lot more powerful these days (so good that reliability doesn't require a finely tuned PC anymore) and there are less HW/SW compatibility issues.. So I am seriously going to think about investing in a laptop/VST based backup gig rig.

My only hesitation, is the idea of carting around a laptop, laptop stand, audio interface along with a controller, and more power adapters and midi cables etc.etc on top of a stand, stool pedals etc.etc.. it just strikes me as a lot of stuff to worry about. I was really excited at the idea that I might be able to get away with this 15 pound Hammond SK1 at small gigs and just bring that and a stand, a stool, couple cables/pedals and that's it... 5 minute setup and tear down, and nothing much to hurt my back.

However, as I said I will be giving this some serious thought.. Thanks again for the tip on Cantible.. I will definately scope this out.
