Subject:Re: Just got my Hammond Sk1 - initial reaction/problem?
Bobby, the SK series is now up to OS version 4! So if this is/was a software problem you would think that it would have been fixed by now. Being at OS version 4 so early in the product cycle says two things to me.. one, they released the product way before it was ready.. (bad) second, they are committed to fixing and improving the product (good). The different version contain both fixes and new features/programs etc. so that's a really good thing.
The more I hear from people, the more I think that mine is/was a defective unit, because some owners swear that their acoustic piano samples are clean and absolutely noise free while others are hearing what I heard and they've returned there unit as defective.. I suspect that others may have simply EQ'd the hiss out of the patch! I wasn't prepared to do that because I wouldn't want to lose any clarity or high end in the piano, because I need something that will cut through the mix in a classic rock band.
Still waiting to see what Hammond has to say. All these issues really does take the shine off what might have been a great new product.. Quality Control at HS really sucks.. BTW.. when I looked at the OS levels in my machine, some files were in between full releases.. So I was at a higher level than Release 1 but not at Release 2, so it seems apparent to me that HS is not even being consistent with what versions of OS they're shipping out... this is very basic QC stuff.

It certainly makes you wonder about the quality control department at HS. I assume that a sufficient uproar will hurry up their asses to straighten this out - another argument for letting others be the guinea pigs for a brand-new product and waiting for v.2.
