I disagree an believe the Xk-1 and SK-1-2 are still Hammonds first an foremost an they were created aslightweight clones of the Hammond Organ ...created to attract the player like me that wants to play a Hammond but does not wish to lug around a 400 lb BEAST ...
I believe the extra voices were just that ..EXTRA and add ons ......matter of fact the XK- 1 piano was so bad ..i would not even play it when i owned my XK-1 ...but ...from what i hear of the SK-1 ..the AP an EP s are much much better ...sounding like
EP's ...
I do not believe XK-1 Or SK-1 was created for piano players first an organists 2nd....IMHO

It probably has more to do with who H/S thinks will be buying the instrument. The XK-3/c was intended for people who play organ and wanted an organ. The XK-1 and now the SK-1 (IMO) were more intended for people who were probably "keyboard" players or more piano focused and therefore used to notes triggering deeper. Having some notes trigger so near the top may have been a negative for them.
As I understand it (but I don't know for certain), with the Nords either the organ or the other sounds can be played but not both at once. With the SK-1 and 2 the Extra Voices can be layered with either the upper or lower organ manual.
