I assume you are referring to updating the Operating System. It is definitely worth the work (and there is not that much work) - especially if your PC361 is still running a version 1 OS. First step is to back up any existing user programs (since the memory must be erased and reformatted for the ver 2 OS update). I do this to an xD card, and backup everything into one file. The first few pages of the Storage section of the manual describe the process well.

The actual update: download the new OS file from Kurzweil web site (current public version is 2.03). This will be a zip file. open up the zip file on the computer. there will be a couple of binary files (BIN extension) and an object file (PC3 extension) along with both a text and html set of instructions. Follow the instructions exactly - do not leave out the format flash memory step.

The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. Afterward, you can reload your user modifications. I'm part of the Kurzweil PC3 beta group, I've done this update about 20 or 25 times since the original 0.9 OS release.

Is it worth it for better KB3 mode? I would say so. I bought an Electro 3 a year and a half ago for better Hammond sounds. I sold the Electro 3 a couple of weeks ago, having replaced it with a PC361 (I also have a PC3X and PC3).

If you are running organ in a jazz combo or other very exposed group, you may still want to edit the patches to turn off the internal Leslie simulation(s) - there are over 50 different sims - and run into a Vent or a real Leslie. If you are running organ as just part of a band, you will likely be satisfied with the sim. Besides, there are literally hundereds of parameters that can be edited to make your very own personal Leslie effect, if you want to spend the time to learn the OS enough to edit them. I usually just cange to one of the emulations that I particularly like.

BTW, on your other question, by default, switch pedal one, same as used in other places for sustain, switches Leslie speed in all KB3 factory programs. In setups, you have to program it yourself.
