Subject:Re: Audio Interface Hardware for VB3 Application

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply and the very good information. On the Toshiba, it has 1 GB of ram (which I will probably bump up to 2 GB) and  a dual core Centrino processor.  The ground loop hum was the other issue that I have experienced in the past, which is why I would prefer to go with with an external sound processor. As you have noted, I will use Cantabile for the VST hosting.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Hopefully after Christmas I will make the time to put this all together.

Again thanks for your valued help.

Best Regards

Murray

1. PC I recently switched to a Dell Laptop running Win7 32 with 2gig of ram and a dule core Centrino processor exclusively for VST hosting.  This is adequate for Cantabile hosting VB3 but not for NI Vintage Organs running in Traktor (purchased Vintage Organs last week when on special - sustained notes die which accordling to what I could find in the manual is due to inadequate RAM and/or processor cores).  Also after getting rid of the ground loop hum from the audio out of the laptop I purchased an M Audio Fastrack USB (AUS $129) to act as an external sound processor and it works perfectly in this context without any aubile hum or other artifacts.  The other VSTi's I use all work fine.

Prior to dedicating this older Dell laptop for VST hosting I used my main laptop with 4gig ram dual core i3 processor and XPSP3 and Cantabile with VB3 and all other VST's I tried ran fine.

I found Cantabile to the be easiest VSTi host to use as a VST host. All the other mainstream DAW's I tried are biased towards recording etc and VST hosting just for live performance seemed to be a very minor part of their functionality.  I experienced crashes in Cantanile using the ASIO4ALL driver but have not experienced any issues with the M Audio ASIO driver.

You don't state what the RAM and processor is in the Toshy, these will be the key determinants of whether it will work OK or not.

Cheers

Mark

Subject: [CWSG] Audio Interface Hardware for VB3 Application

To all you VB3 users, I am looking at running VB3 on a Toshiba Satellite
A100 laptop (Windows XP OS) with either a Yamaha Motif XS7 or Roland
VR-760 as the midi keyboard controller. For the hosting software I am
planning to run either Reaper or Cantabile.

For the audio output should I use the audio directly from the laptop or
should I have an USB audio interface such as a Tascan, M-Audio or
equivalent between the laptop and sound system?

Thanks for your help.

Murray
