I agree.  I've made several successful gear transactions in the greater Boston area over the years with great results.  When I need to look for (or sell) an item, Craig's List has always been my 1st go-to resource.

Anything on Craigslist is suspect?  Like the '64 B3 I recently bought for $500 ?  Of course you have to be careful, but you have to be careful with any other advertising too... E Bay, newspaper classifieds, etc. To say that anything on Craigslist is suspect is an unfair generalization.
