Bobby,

If you go back and look at this thread you will realize that, while the subject was SK1 vs XK3c side by side, there were numerous side discussions and one of these discussions had to do with how much difference in sound there there might be due to the fact that the SK1 did not have the tube stage that the XK3c had. It was during this discussion that the comparison between and XK1 and XK3c came up because it's basically the same sound engine, but the XK1 doesn'tt have the tube stage.. I had said that I thought there was a noticable difference between the XK1 and the XK3c's, and I had attributed it to the lack of tube stage on the XK1.

Osman, regarding your attached comments, we're all well aware that the XK1 and the XK3c share basically the same sound engine but that doesn't mean they sound the same. The XK3c has a tube output stage that the XK1 does not have (and neither does the SK1/2 which was the point of this dicussion). I hear a huge difference between the XK1 and the XK3c!

After all is said and done, if you read some of the early reviews on the SK1/2 it's getting high points for overall sound,  but from what I can gather, the overdrive is not getting very high marks.  This was exactly what I was getting at when I asked the original question.
Has hammond figured out how to create nice warm, grindy, realistic overdrive on the Sk1/2's without the tube stage.  Based on early reviews the answer seems to be NO.

So where are the listmember reviews of the SK1/2's? Where are the great promo videos that someone promised..?  The only great video I've seen recently was for the Crumar MOJO and it kills!!

Craig MacDonald

Check the subject. SK1, not XK1.
