Subject:Re: PC Sampler (playback) for Cantabile ?

Also, to answer your question re: audio out, right now, I don't have a USB audio adapter (Fast Track has been recommended ~ $100). I'm still in the experimenting/learning mode and I just rigged up my old MIDIMAN 2x2 so I could actually play it (up till now, I just messed with the onscreen keyboard). And the output with the internal audio out (headphone).

The latency when I first got it running was HORRIBLE. I found a setup screen in Cantabile and there's a buffer setting and a latency calculation displayed. The default setting showed something like 46 msec. That's a long time. I was able to adjust the buffer down to 512, seems this is the lowest allowable (by trial and error) and the latency got down to 11 msec. much better. If Zero is not achievable, 1 or 2 msec would probably be OK, but I think this is one reason you need a USB converter box.

NOW please don't get the idea I KNOW what I'm talking about. I DON"T! I'm just learning here, so any one who can explain whats going on with this buffer stuff, please feel free to chime in and shed some light on this.

BTW, I'm still open to more suggestions for Cheap, bare bones, sample playback apps for PC (if there is one) (VSamp for MAC is one I've used and like but alas, it's not for PC)

Thanks,
Rock
