"I always thought the Nord acoustic pianos were pretty lame and that the
boards did not have all of the bread and butter sounds you would need
to play in a classic rock or 80's band."
The E3 can download samples from Nord's sample library. To my ears, some of the pianos sound pretty good. The Mellotron stuff is cool, too. Believe me, I am no expert. In your opinion, do the Nord sample library samples sound great or just sufficient?
"Yamaha piano sounds are light years ahead of Nord."
I have a connection to get a screaming deal on either the Nord or Kurzweil. While the Yamaha or Roland may sound better, I'd have to buy them retail. Guitar is my primary instrument, not keys, so I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck. May have to make a few compromises. If I end up with the Nord, which is how I'm leaning, will I be making too much of a compromise?
"I know they have tried to step it up. Maybe someone can tell me if Nord is producing MOTIF quality non-B3 sounds."
Again, I'm no expert, but the stuff on the Nord site sounds pretty darn good through headphones.
"The MOX8 is almost the equivalent of a modern S-90."
If it's this good, I may have to check it out, killer deal be damned.
"I want to compare the MOX8 against the new Roland RD300 NX for a light versatile second board."
I'd be very interested to know your findings when you can make the comparo.
you certainly should consider Yamaha, S90/ES/XS or Motif series.
