This is one reason that I have never seen the point in digests. On
most forums the frequency of postings and the long-lived nature of
threads (and people that don't understand that replacing the subject
line does NOT start a new thread) really makes it hard to read. With
individual posts the messages are threaded together, it is easy to see
which you have read, and each posting is easy to trawl through for the
lastest updates. Best of all, if I have no interest in a thread I can
instantly mark the messages read, and I can sort by influential
authors if I wish. Of course, you must really set up folders / labels
for this to work, but that is so easy in decent web mail clients like
Gmail, or decent desktop email clients.
