That makes sense because there's no where for the bar stems to go
unless they are flexible and bend around towards the rear of the case
like a roll top desk.. At least they kept the original ends. What's
amazing is the tooling and the parts available.

Having said that, I reckon those "drawbars" are faders with dummy bars
attached. Notice how they're never shown pushed in? They probably run
in slots in the panel top.
