Subject:RE: VB3 / Receptor

Perhaps I should have posted this question to the www.kvraudio.com/forum
where more Receptor owners might share info. I chose this forum because I
read these posts daily and appreciate what so many contributors have been
willing to share. After writing this post last night I had to run out
quickly to join friends playing at a local party with close to five hundred
in attendance. Because I was having issues with my Receptor/VB3
configuration and loading my 122 was not convenient, I was forced to use my
VK-77 and Casio 330 audio out directly into a Peavey KB-300 front end with
the Peavey providing a feed to DI. I was in such a hurry, I didn't have the
option of hooking up my Ventilator and relied solely on the VK-77 internal
simulator which I've NEVER used and dislike the sound of. Gosh, it
depressing, not having either VB3 and simulator or Akoustik Piano.

In the past I relied on a 1122 converter to feed the 122, not even using my
Speakeasy preamp in the path. The sound of the VK-77 and 122 is excellent.
I've got to give the Ventilator more practice and should have last night.
It's just that I've been so happy with VB3's simulator and the sound I get
from the Receptor when I'm on top of the issues.

Donn

Subject: [CWSG] VB3 / Receptor

Like a majority of fellow Clonewheel subscribers, I continue to search for
reliable and authentic Hammond console, acoustic piano and electric piano
sounds. Three years ago I was prepared to purchase a rack mount server and
dedicate it to host VST plug-ins when I was introduced to Muse Receptor. I
thought that the Receptor was the answer to my issues. I purchased a
Receptor 1 with 1.7 OS. I continue to struggle, partially due to my lack of
experience, but also due to the lack of compatibility between the Receptor
and the various plug-ins I would like to use, even those that load perfectly
well on a five year old Dell laptop running XP.

I'm sold on VB3 and believe that when 'dialed in' I have a sound that is
hard to distinguish from B3 and 122. The 'straight' organ sound is the best
I've heard to date. I use both the Leslie effect as well as a straight
organ with C3 chorus, sometimes a Vibrato when called for.

At present I'm using VB3 and Native Instrument's Akoustik Piano.
(Unfortunately, I am unable to install Native Instruments Elektrik Piano or
Pianoteq on the Receptor.)

Here's my most pressing issue: I have a series of controllers I use with
the Receptor running VB3 including a Roland A-80, VK-77, PCR-800, Casio 330
and additionally a Korg NanoKontrol. Not all instruments can be programmed
with the same midi CC mapping. I'd like to have customized patches on the
Receptor I can call up depending on which combination of controllers I'm
playing.

With VB3, Guido has provided a VB3.DAT file which contains midi CC values
for each switch and pot. This file resides:

Receptor\hard drive\Program Files\VST Plugins\SoundFonts.it\VB3\VB3.DAT.

Whenever I modify the VB3.dat file via the user interface, the modification
is saved, but not as a unique patch. It saves the new VB3.dat file and
whatever I do to attempt to save a unique file for a specific controller
cannot be recalled later; the change gets saved across the board and affects
each and every patch.

If I open the file with Notepad, I can edit it, but then Receptor will not
let me save that edited file because the folder is protected. I've saved
several modified VB3.dat files in individual folders, but they do me no good
if I can't write over the original file. I have tried to save a modified
VB3 set-up via Receptor 'mulitis', 'multi snapshots' and 'singles', but VB3
reads the dat file residing in the \Program Files\VST
Plugins\SoundFonts.it\VB3 folder.

Any suggestions from someone with more experience or knowledge than I?

Thank you in advance.
