Subject:Re: New Player, discography recommendations?

Great recommendations so far (R.I.P. Billy P. - wish you were still around). I'd need to dig back to the very beginning of this thread to make sure, but one glaring ommision is Seth Justman of J. Geils Band. He could play back up with the best of them & his solo work is great too. Another one who is more obscure but worth the look-up is David "Hawk" Wolinski. He was in a group called Bangor Flying Circus out of Chicago in the late 60's early 70's. They were a different type of power trio - organ, guitar, drums - kind of a forerunner to prog-rock & jazz-rock & the vocals were somewhat Vanilla Fudge-ish (come to think of it, Mark Stein of V.F. hasn't been mentioned either, has he?), but definitely a great group who never got their due. Wolinski & the guitarist then went on to a group called Madura, whom I must confess to never having heard but am working on getting copies of their recordings. Wolinski was in Rufus for a period after that & may have been part of the continuslly rotating line-up of Cold Blood. Bangor Flying Circus' only record is available on cd reissue if you look around. Judging from the recording quality itself it sounds like one of those groups who's recording sound only hints at how great they would have sounded live.
