Subject:RE: Question about Vent drive control
John,
As in any other box with a variable drive, I would guess you varying
drive by your expression pedal would also vary the amount of overdrive
experienced the same as any other preamp/amp combination. The drive control
sets the threshold level.

Subject: [CWSG] Question about Vent drive control
Hello group:
I was watching the Jim Alfredson review of the Vent on Youtube and there was
one thing I was wondering about. The drive "effect" sounds pretty good, but
can the drive level be varied only with the control knob on the Vent? Or,
can you vary the amount of drive vary via your expression pedal?
I suspect this is not the case as the Vent would be required to "detect" the
level of audio input and then vary the distortion level according to what
you're doing with your expression pedal. On my BX-3 the amount of distortion
increases as I stomp down on the expression pedal, which is as it should be.
The drive control on The BX-3 only sets the "maximum" amount of drive
provided using the expression pedal.
If, as I suspect, the Vent's drive is only variable via the control knob on
the unit itself then I would view this as a fairly serious drawback. This
would mean you could not easily vary the amount of grunge "on the fly" while
playing with two hands. For songs where you're frequently modulating the
drive level this would require you to constantly remove one hand to alter
the drive knob on the Vent.
I can't seem to find anywhere where this is addressed. Am I incorrect in my
assumption as to how this aspect of the Vent works?
Thanks in advance for your help.
John
