Subject:Prolotherapy for Tendonitis - My experience

I am hearing a lot about tendonitis issues lately among musicians and
people in general who lead active lifestyles.

Back in 2006 I was working quite a bit, splitting my work between drumming
gigs and keyboard gigs. I started having pain in my right arm near the area
between my forearm and bicep but the pain would also shoot up into my hand
area - particularly in the thumb.

It got so bad that I had trouble turning a doorknob, opening things with
can openers and moving a steering wheel.

I like to listen to programs on alternative health and one day I happened
to catch a talk on radio station KPFK out of Los Angeles - the program is
called "Inner Vision" and it featured Dr. Marc Darrow speaking about the
effects of prolotherapy on joint and tendon pain.

Dr. Darrow explained a little bit about how prolotherapy works .
Basically it consists of receiving injections of a solution containing glucose that
are meant to stimulate the growth of supportive collagen around the area
of tendons and bones. What he was describing seemed to relate directly to
what I was experiencing. I had already been to numerous doctors and had tried
a variety of treatments such as cortizone shots, acupuncture etc. etc.

I am not located near Darrow's practice but fortunately I am within driving
distance of the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland Oregon.
There was a doctor there - Dr. Ryan Minarick who specialized in teaching
prolotherapy to students of naturopathic medicine in Portland.

I was extremely lucky because Dr. Minarick is also highly trained in
acupuncture and was able to pinpoint the exact areas that were the source of the
trouble. I received a series of prolotherapy injections on only two
occasions, and was asked to rest the area for at least a month.

My pain totally vanished! For period of about four years now I have been
pain free in my right arm. And yes, I did buy new keyboard gear ( a non
weighted Motif ) because I thought I was going to need to switch from weighted
keys. Happily I am back to playing a weighted keyboard with no problems.

I hope I am not coming off a being preachy but I am pretty convinced that
many people could potentially benefit from prolotherapy to resolve
tendonitis and joint pain relayed issues. A simple google search can tell you more
about it, and many naturopathic doctors are now using this as the go-to
method of addressing problems like the one I had.
