Subject:Re: Best Vibrato/Chorus scanner emulation on a clonewheel....

I’ve got one thing to say Amen brother!!! This is an unfortunate bunch of bull all the manufacturers pull. I’m still using a Triton rack and an original Motif module because the new stuff doesn’t offer anything “new” that just blows my socks off…They recycle the same crap with a new shell and say it sounds better and quite frankly I don’t hear a difference that makes me want to shell out another $3k for something new every other year. YMMV Maybe I’m just getting old and grouchy getting over my G.A.S. I think the best things I’ve bought recently were the Vent, Ocean Beach drawbar controller that makes the E2 feel like it’s new and also the GEM RP-X I LOVE IT!!! Again YMMV…I remember a number of years ago I loved going to the big town music stores because they always had the new gear and now it seems like the same crap nothing to get excited about. I’ll keep using my old stuff until something comes along that stops me dead in my tracks…

Yep, that's why I didn't buy the XK-3c which came out a couple of months after I bought the XK-3. Imagine how pissed off I was.
I have heard rumours that the "next" model will come out in 2012. I hope it still fits into the existing XK-3 systems (If not, I will pass - probably like many, may fellow Hammond buffs who invested in a system) - I would say the "improvements" are:
1) a lot of bullshit - like USB ports, compatability with software, online upgrades, more tweakability of tonewheels, leakage - all shit we don't need. It's like the 20+ year old issue of so many pieces of gear: yep, it sounds shit but you can tweak it to death. My modest input: why shoud I be able to tweak a Steinway concert grand? Cut the crap and make it sound good out-of-the-box.

2) improved keyclick (they will sell it as if they discovered another planet in our solar system, even if a humble lad from Italy already made it so much better in his VB3 software)

3) Chorus/Vib: Now they "sampled" it from real vintage Hammonds. You can chose between a B3, a C3 and a A100 - wow!

4) yet another unnecessary change in pre-amp tubes (just so we Hammond buffs feel that we aren't left with a totally cold digital machine)

5) an even better leslie sim - which still will sound inferior to the Vent.

6) Korg CX-3-like stuff where you can add and change tonewheels. Like those late 80s reverbs where you had a lot of parameters plus crude graphics. You were able to tweak between crappy and barely acceptable. For what? Can I get a decent Hammond clone please?

HS-guys do you hear us? We are not that stupid like you think. Thank you.

Christian
