Subject:Re:Best Vibrato/Chorus scanner emulation on a clonewheel....
The BEST chorus vibrato emulation on a clonewheel that I have heard was
from the KEY B that I heard at the NAMM show this past January. I had also
heard the Diversi in previous years and it was very similar.... but as far as
being commercially available, we are all still patiently waiting ... (????
).
My own choice for the clone with the best chorus vibrato on a commercially
available clone source is the Roland VK8m with the leslie sim bypass. Most
specifically the best C/V on that unit is to be found on the "Vintage "1 "
amp setting. Not many on this list have actually heard one with the
bypass.
My apologies to you who have been hearing me blow my horn about the VK8m
for YEARS but the chorus vibrato on "certain" other commercially available
(but very popular) clones in many cases just does not cut it.
I think that all the clones out right now sound good on chorale - one of my
favorites is the Hammond XK-1 through a leslie. In the two cases I played
those, they sounded very Hammond like. I can't say I liked the XK-1
overdrive, but the drawbar tones sounded very good.
After having owned a Roland VK8m for almost 5 years now, I have rarely if
ever gotten tired of the chorus vibrato capabilities of this. I have a very
nice 1962 B-3/122 in my living room and I can go from one to the other
without missing much if anything.
Good chorus vibrato is essential to me... that is one reason I have gone
with Roland and passed on the others.
