Subject:Re: Best Vibrato/Chorus scanner emulation on a clonewheel....
The XK-3c has an improved Chorus/Vibrato emulation. I never A/B'd it though. I have the old XK-3 and the C-3 sounds too stark and unpleasant to my ears. I use the C-2 position which is a little softer, but still not great. I play in a gospel band and I could use a great C-3 sound but oh well....
I replaced the stock tubes with Mullards and I also use a little of the Vetntilator's overdrive (I have two leslies but we decided that it brings nore problems than advantages (the leslie neets to be shielded to prevent leakage into the choir microphones and it's one more heavy box to schlepp. So the added muscle sounds great and the high notes scream like they should. If I put the C-3 on (and even the C-2 which is rare) the harmonic beating patters womehow sounds false and doesn't go well with the excellent Leslie sim (Vent of course, the internal leslie sim of the old XK-3 is a joke).
I wouldn'd mind buing another box with a great Chorus/Vibrato emulation. The signal chain might be compromised (it should be before the pre amp tubes, but perhaps someone could come up with a kit.... ) The C-3 or C-2 Chorus settings on a real vintacge console Hammond sounds awesome and goes along wonderfully with a leslie.
...just my thoughts,
Christian

I haven't really seen this discussed much.....
As an aside - is the XK3c upgraded from the XK3 in this regard?
This question just occured to me away from my keyboards - so I have not A/B'd my XK3 vs. my Electro 3 vs. VB3 vs. Voce - but I will say that with the Electro I tend to leave the chorus on more often than not, just because it sounds too naked or something without it.
Percussion comparisons might be worth a seperate thread.....
