Here is a link to one of my favorite Jon Lord interviews where he discusses hip playing techniques. A must read for rock organists.

Hehe interesting you mentioned Kon. He and I, as well as many others,
have been discussing this
for the last months if not years.

Kon had the pleasure of meeting Jon
Lord during the Melbourne tours. Kon was not able to get much info
from Jon on his "present" rig circa the Melbourne tours, taking into
consideration the aging star's expenditure of energy at the concert
moments before, realizing Jon would like to get back to his hotel and
relax, but told me he noticed Jon made "a mistake" on his description
of the
vintage of the organ he had used at some point. Kon and I realized the
best source as a back up would have been Jon's tech but getting to
those guys during tear down, let alone setup is a difficult thing to
accomplish unless you're part of the back line and even then not a for
sure thing either as these guys are all business and no time for small
talk. Suffice it to say, this is what I
meant when I posted that even the artists sometimes don't get their
facts straight. But research has been on going by guys like Kon and of
course us. And to be fair to all concerned, with as much modifications
that go into some of these artists' rigs, it would be hard to ascertain
whether parts from different vintage organs were jumbled up into one
case, manuals and drawbars from one, TG from another, etc into an
arbitrary C3 case and all the line out possibilities, either from the
AO-28 itself or from the manuals (or both) themselves to really say
what actually transpired and would also make identifying the vintage
of a tour rig difficult. In the Melbourne clip I posted not only are
there multiple Leslies, there are also subwoofers sitting under those
Leslies and Kon who was at the concert was not able to find out how
those were tied into Jon's rig.

Granted the equipment and techniques used on Machine Head is of prime
importance as whatever was used during the tour years hence, has no
bearing on the recording itself and is for all intents a mutation of
the original ideas and possible connections.

If you refer to Jon's own Youtube clip on his sound, that's as close as
we've arrived at coming from the horse's mouth and we might want to
take that as verbatim. A Marshall amp out of the organ. Seems to be
fairly simple. The beauty of a prominent artist's position is that they
get to take advantage of simple devices to make a sound of a
generation. It becomes their signature sound and gear use while the
rest of us are left with "now why didn't I think of that?".

For those that don't know what Kon Z looks like, here are two fast
fingered Geminis:

There is also a very knowledgeable tech, Kon Zissis, who has designed a
several OD and other Hammond related mods in which you may be
interested.
