Subject:Re: FLOYD/R. Wright's DBs
I'm kind of thinking since you post this you are either very forgetfull (like me) or else nobody answers you. I'd still list Wright as one of my main influences because of Dark side. There's a guy that plays in a FLoyd tribute band, I imagine he's much more familiar with this that I am, but as far as settings go, he's all over on Dark Side. I think they're basically the same on the manuals as the B so that shouldn't affect your settings much, but again, every organ is different. Things like Great Gig seem to be close to 8's right across. Us and them kind of sounds like 8880000000, which hes seems to carry over through Colour. But that has a ton of what sounds like Gilmore running through a lesle too, so it gets confusing. Eclips seems to have a lot of the no upper sounds too, as well as some real great slurs, which I think he was a master of. Two of the coolest parts though I think on that CD are the beginning of on the run, where they just mic the leslie up as it hisses and chorales, and that work at the end of breathe. And that's not even mentioning all the great wurly work he does on that CD! Now, I think I remember him using an RT3 on that CD, but I'm not sure.
I think Wright is extremely underrated, and as far as taste goes, nobody beats him in rock for putting just the right little touches in. He was so unassuming it's easy to forget how well he could play.
