Subject:Re: CX 3 Korg tips, suggestions for jazz, pop etc.

The CX-3/BX-3 seems to need tubes. When I got my BX-3 I tried several solid state musical instrument/sound system amps. Sounded like crrrrraaaaaap no matter what I did to tweak the sound. Then I put a tube preamp in the chain and there was a big improvement. Finally I went all tube with both the tube preamp and a pair of tube monoblock amps. Huge improvement. Mind you my "all tube" system is more towards the higher end and as such I would only use it at home, but it did demonstrate the point.

Still, in the back of my mind, I'm not absolutely sure if this is less of a commentary on the sound quality of the Korg or more of a commentary on the sound of solid state amps. Maybe it's both. Perhaps if you pay enough money the solid state stuff may not sound so harsh, but I'm not in a position to test that out.
