Gracias Amigo LJR!.
I think that walking bass lines is more a matter of how to construct the lines and approach the target notes. Great players play bass lines that are "alive" like if it were a bass player.
I find not too hard to keep a steady walking line cause the pattern is rythmically steady, mostly quarter notes with eventual embellishments, sort of autopilot mode you talk about.
But to play a steady funky line below sincopated improv on the right hand is quite a challenge (at least for me now).
I´ve found that learning to tap my foot well can , kind of give you a reference point to listen chunks of bass and melody in a more clear all in ne way any case.....need lot of practice yet.
It´s amazing how the organ gives you another perspective on harmony (being a piano player, one tend to play left hand voicings below the melody and not the Full counterpoint you must perform whie soloing in the organ)
For me this is a marvellous example, and the title of the song is eloquent.
