Subject:Re:Ventura News

I just wish I could hear one and get my hands into what they feel like....

I think this is a good move since many of the mom and pop music stores have
gone belly up. Even Guitar Center seems to be having problems putting new
units in stock.

I support what you are trying to do Jason. I think it is important for
customers to be able to give manufacturers direct feedback.

I still have no idea how the Ventura sounds with straight chorus vibrato -
no leslie sim, overdrive etc. etc. The demo videos didn't get into it that
much.

Chorus vibrato is the deal breaker for me. I thought the Hammond Suzukies
of late all sounded pretty damn good- except for the chorus. Joey De
Francesco himself told me that was one of the main reasons he ditched HS. All of
the clones that I have played can reproduce good basic drawbar tones. But
can I fool a listener on a jazz recording? Rock, possibly yes - through a
leslie. But a jazz trio is a different issue.

And yes I have heard Steve's video.... I would have to hear one with closer
miking unfortunately.

In all honesty, one of the clones that I am waiting to hear before I do
anything is going to be the Roland. My VK8m module still sounds good to me. If
Roland has made any improvements at all it is going to be a strong
consideration for me to have additional sounds. In this day, at least having some
good additional electric piano sounds is in the realm of possibility. The
addition of EP's to an organ made the Nord Electro the classic that it has
become.

Anyway I think that direct sales is a good move. Things have changed in the
retail world quite a bit in the past 5 years or so.
