Billy Larkin and the Delegates were originally from Portland Oregon ( I
live in Salem ). They were the house group at the Upstairs Lounge in downtown
Portland for many years.

There was quite a scene in Portland for Hammond lounge type groups in the
late 60's and early 70's. Billy Larkin, Benny Wilson, Bob James ( sot the
same as the CTI guy), Jimmy and Johnny Sanders and Frankie Redding were some
of the more popular ones. The Helm ( across from the Lloyd Center in
Portland) was an organ room well into the early 80's. When I was young I got to
sit in with many of the greats in the area on drums at the Helm because I
had the house gig with Bob James back then for months at a time.

Mel Brown can tell you everything you need to know about Billy Larkin, who
I am pretty sure is no longer with us. He was an original member of the
Delegates, and has his own Hammond organ based quartet that plays at Jimmy
Mac's in Portland on Thursday nights.

And since you are in Chicago, perhaps you remember one of my favorite
groups - Odell Brown and the Organizers. Their " Mellow Yellow" and "Raising the
Roof" LP's on the Cadet label were big favorites of mine.
