Subject: [CWSG] Guy Babylon 1956-2009
I caught some info on the net that Guy Babylon..longtime Elton John
keyboardist had passed away from a heart attack last fall at age 52.. I was
sad to hear this..
If any of you remember those floppy little vinyl records that used to come
with every issue of Keyboard Mag..well there was a contest for the best
recording or something & the winner was Guy Babylon doing a progressive rock
number.
It was the first i had heard of the VK7. He was playing that plus doing
these killer synth leads. Great stuff.
Later i heard he got the gig with Elton John. I never saw him gig or
anything but always remembered how he kicked butt on this contest.
There are some great videos on YouTube etc. of his excellent work.
OK I found a video & he is using the same lead sound!!
It is a Clavinet with a pitch bender apparatus!! That's what he used on the
song on the floppy..
Killer lead. If any of you follow my music you may know I love to play lead
guitar patches as well triggered by my Nord Stage.
So I dug what he was doing..
Check this out & pay tribute to an excellent musician.
