I agree that the simulator in the VK8m is under-rated. About a month ago, I saw a band at a club, and thought the guy had a really nice Leslie sounds. I went up to him after the set and asked him what he was using... just a stock VK8m. That's not to say that it might not be that much better with a Ventilator, but the Roland is really not bad at all.

I do think that often, when someone says that they played something and weren't impressed, you have to allow for the fact that they didn't necessarily take the time to learn the piece and how it might be able to be tweaked to their liking... they may just be playing it at however it happened to be set up at the store or in someone else's rig.
