The Highway Star clip, that entire concert was purposely set up for DVD
release. It became one of the top selling DVD's in AU. I would ask Kon
how he heard the dual 147's with the subs from the audience but since
he was not on stage it most likely will be everything thru FOH he
heard. And most likely only Jon heard his dual leslies if at all and
not the rest of the band. I asked Kon if he knew how they were wired
but he said no even though he got to meet and greet Jon and get a few
photos with the man he was too considerate that the man was tired and
would rather get to his hotel room. I wonder if one horn/leslie was
reversed polarity (the speakers themselves) in order for it not to
cancel out? Or was one a dummy, spinning but no sound?

The Geil's clip was too phasey for me if that's the case that only one
mic was used on the stack they used. Might've been too many tops and
not enough bottoms or just too many tops going in and out of phase
stacked in an array or not enough was known back then to wire that
properly. If you listen to Rolie's set up at Woodstock, he had two (if
not 4 leslies going if I'm not mistaken, I've read he had four but
could only see two) but they were not stacked in a quad. There is a
science of sound pollution reduction that involves using an additional
compressor for example in the case of split type airconditioners with
noisy compressors outside buildings and the way around that to reduce
the db's is to add another similar device sitting next to it and this
physical location reduces much of the noise of a single compressor.

The only thing is, I only see one set of mics on one Leslie. So while
the *band members* may be hearing the sound of multiple Leslies, the
*listener* is not ...

Same thing with J. Geils -- only one Leslie mic'ed.
