Subject:Re: Yet Another Ventilator Switching Question

I  no longer have a CX3, so I can’t say specifically: however, the way it interacts with the XK1 tonally is great; it really warms it up and fills it out.  I don’t have a Speakeasy pre any longer (only my AMA mounted inside my Rockbox), but I can tell you that in a “with Ventilator” and “w/o Ventilator” comparison, just in terms of the TONE, it’s great.  Will it be as great as the Speakeasy? I can’t say, because I’m no longer equipped to do the comparison.  But the fact that I can’t say “no, no way will it sound as good” is enough to tell me that you’re likely going to be very happy. I can say this absolutely for sure: With my XK1 into the Ventilator, I am never going “man, I wish I had that preamp here” or “the sim is great, but the tone is missing something”; I don’t have that at all.   I know the Speakeasy is killer; so is the Ventilator, and with the Ventilator, the XK1 just jumps out at you in a pleasing
way, just like with my Speakeasy when I had it.  If you’re in Chicago, let’s get together and compare!  Comparing the AMA and the Ventilator would be unfair as the AMA is truly an amplifier.  I bet the Speakeasy through the Ventilator would sound pretty ballsy!

Tony,

How much would you say the ventilator attenuates the higher frequencies? Anything like a Speakeasy preamp? My CX-3 is pretty shrill on the high end, but sounds great after going through a Speakeasy preamp and amp. But could I go direct from the CX-3 to a Ventilator and have it sound as good? Just curious.

So far, I haven't seen one negative review of the Ventilator. I LOVE this thing!
