Steve,

I'm with Ken on this one.. I don't think you should buy a K4 sight unseen.... sorry..  I did NOT like the K4 when I tried it..  I tried it with a Hammond XK1 and I thought it was too antisceptic sounding (not sure how else to describe it) but I thought it was lacking in warmth and body..   crystal clear, but really missing something..  That said, I am not sure whether it was the Hammond XK1 or the Traynor K4, or the combination, that was responsible for the sound that I didn't like.

I've been using two KC500's and I considering replacing the 2 KC-500's with a Roland KC-880 to use with my Nord C1/Sample Cell rig, and the feedback I get is mixed.. and if there's one thing I've learned by listening to others on and off these various hammond/keyboard forums... it's the fact that EVERYONE HEARS THINGS DIFFERENTLY.. everyone has a different perspective on the ideal sound, and everyone has a different perspective on how to get it..

That said, when picking out a clone, or an amp to play it through, under no circumstances buy it sight unseen (unless you have absolutely no alternative).. Furthermore, if you're buying an amp, take your clone with you and play it through that amp.. and vice versa.. I had a new digital Korg BX3 that I did not like the sound of through my Roland amps.. however, I find the sound of the Nord C1 to be quite good through the Rolands... I'm not sure why, but it's just better (not a Korg vs Nord statement, just an observation re how they sound through this particular amp).

Bottom line, like Ken, I don't like the K4's.. and I would strongly advise not to buy an amp sight unseen..  Craig

Steve,

I would caution you against buying it without a test drive. Some folks
love it and some really don't ( I'm one of the latter ).
