I go with the Motif Classic/Rack for piano and string sounds . After the Classic something went south with Yamaha's "digital" piano model.
They swear it's the same/better but to my ears it is not. I AB'd the Classic with the ES and there is a BIG difference.
For me the horns in the Yamaha are worthless.
The Roland X series has the best horn sounds-for my taste.
I guess if I had to pick one module it would be a Roland Fantom series and slog through the mediocre piano patches.
I would also say it really depends what you need the most. If it's piano then go with the Motif.
Since I don't want to start a range war, this is entirely my personal opinion and doesn't mean that others may find their experiences completely different.
