When you save every cent you make, it's not hard to acquire that much gear. My guitar player friend and I would save everything we made, and once a year make a pilgrimage to the big city (S.F. or L.A.) to get gear. Gigging...picking oranges...harvesting almonds...painting houses...anything. Our clothes were cheap...our cars later were old and in need of paint, etc...and we could not afford girlfriends. But we acquired alot of gear, and developed a reputation for it. I will also admit that for my 13th birthday, my parents were gracious enough to jump start my musical ambitions with a brand new Vox Jaguar...and it was all uphill from there.
