Subject:Re: OT: Superbowl 1/2 time is PRERECORDED.
I agree that the half-time shows are likely recorded or whatever is needed to be absolutely SURE nothing bad happens. And this is not from a "I got a friend who works on it and knows" basis, but more from a commercial one. The Super Bowl is arguably the biggest single event TV show of the entire year and like others have said, a single minute means millions of dollars. Wiki says, "on average, 40 percent of all U.S. households, and 60 percent of all
homes [are] tuned into television during the game. This means that on
average, 80 to 90 million Americans are tuned into the Super Bowl at any given moment." Big bucks - no room for any mess-ups like someone flubbing live, or a boob falling out - ooops. (Actually, I think that was planned, too. Or, let's just say it may not have been a total surprise).
If some of you do not agree with that, I have another shocker for you: reality TV is not really reality. Oh sure, small PARTS of it are, but again, there is too much at stake for a prime time show to not attract the maximum audience. But I do think the producers insist there is the perfect mix of drama, comedy, cuteness, etc. to make it a hit, and they will do whatever it takes to make that happen. I am quite sure some "reality" shows employ actors that are good enough that they look like they are not actors. I think probably one of the most accurate reality shows (and the ONLY one I actually watch) is Cash Cab, and even they are briefed about things ahead of time. In the case of that show, I would bet they do several passenger scenes and pick only the best ones for airing. I wouldn't even doubt if they did re-takes in the cab if need be to make things right.
