There seems to be similar feelings on youtube about The Who's performance. At least they were seen and that in itself is exciting specially for those that grew up with them or are still discovering them...If not for their performance then at least for the huge wave they created back in the 60's. The Who was always politically inclined more so than most bands of their day and to the "thinking" they were a groundswell that is hard to imagine today...."don't try to dig what we all s-s-s-say...= most def...
?
I have not heard the youtube clip. My cpu's soundcard is broken.

They may have played along with the backing track, but they were
indeed playing... Certainly Townsend's guitar solo was live as no one
would pre-record the crap he "played". And certainly the vocals were
live too. Or maybe I am wrong... maybe they would pre-record clams,
off-key singing, etc...

So why am I so critical of this performance? Because there is a time
when a band should just hang it up. I give a lot of credit to ancient
rockers like Petty, Springsteen, Deep Purple, and even the Rolling
Stones... Because they can still pull it off. The Who (well, not
exactly the who as its only Daltry and Townsend) just could not do it
(IMHO).
